Since gaining his PhD in 1983 John has enjoyed 34 years of working in the international petroleum industry in diverse Geoscience-related positions mostly with BP, Oil Search, Lasmo and Eni.
His current role is Chief of Geoscience & Exploration Excellence at Oil Search Ltd based in Sydney. Oil Search is a PNG focused petroleum explorer and producer with a market value at 2017 of about AU$ 11 billion. John is responsible for promoting & applying petroleum related technology and achieving performance excellence from the exploration technical, commercial and economics teams.
He also serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Brisbane based Senex Energy Ltd (successful oil and gas explorer and producer in onshore eastern Australia) where he is a Member of the People & Remuneration Committee and also the Nominations Committee.
In addition John is a Non-Executive Director of Imperial Oil & Gas Ltd. From 2011 he served 4 years as its first Chief Executive Officer when he was responsible for acquiring an extensive highly prospective shale oil & gas exploration acreage position in Australia’s Northern Territory.
John has served as a Member of the External Advisory Board for Petroleum Leeds in the School of Earth & Environment since 2010 and recently became a Visiting Professor in the School.
